Abstract (EN)
This study was created as a master's thesis in Manisa Celal Bayar University Institute of Social Sciences. The study fundamentally consists of two parts. The first part, Discourse-Modality, seeks to identify the concepts of discourse, discourse analysis and modality and information is given regarding these concepts. The notion of discourse was explained under the titles The History of the Concept of Discourse, Discourse Concept in Turkey and The Developent of Discourse Concept in the West. The titles The Definition of the Concept of Discourse Analysis and Discourse Analysis Studies in the Scientific World in Turkey also include information concerning the nature of the discourse analysis. Apart from these, Modality and what kind of role it plays in textual studies were explained under the title Studies on the Concept of Modality and Modality Studies in Textual Analyses. In the second part titled Mehmet Âkif Ersoy- On The Pulpit of Fatih Mosque, the titles Mehmet Akif and His Personality, Mehmet Akif and On The Pulpit Of Fatih Mosque, Choosing the text On The Pulpit of Fatih Mosque for Modality Analysis and The Continuum That Led Mehmet Akif To Write On The Pulpit Of Fatih Mosque are included. In Analysis, which is the third part, the findings in the text were classified and examined and the conclusion part was written accordingly. An analysis of the text revealed that the text includes mostly question moods. It was detected that the writer used the question moods that were classified into fourteen subheadings because they were the most preferred way of the writer to clarify his thoughts. Another frequent use was the imperatives. These were classified in three headings and it was seen that the writer used the imperatives when he wanted to express the recipient the conditions he expected of them and to orient them to the actions he desired. The Necessiatives were handled under three headings and it was found out that the speaker actually tried to prompt the recipient. Apart from these, the marker modality was handled in two headings and the stance and evaluation of the speaker towards the group of people, or the person, situation or facts he tells about to that group of people were detected and it was found out that the writer mostly used the ridiculing mood, and the fact that he aimed at making the recipient aware was revealed. Finally, it was seen that the writer used the modalities that serve as organization or relation conjunctions in order to gather information. It was concluded that the reason for this was because the writer addressed to a mass of recipients and he desired to reincorce his discourse and render it informative, thining that every body in that mass should understand something when they read the text.
