Özet (EN)

In the Ottoman Empire, there were many institutions and organizations that were necessary to be a state. These institutions developed and grew in parallel with the growth of the state. Mehterhane-i amire was one of these institutions. This unit played a crucial role for the state both in İstanbul, on expeditions and journeys. Carrying the tents of the sultan and important statesmen during the expeditions being their most important duty, they also manufactured, repaired and stored tents in Istanbul. Besides they had the responsibility of carrying the necessary tent materials in case the sultan went out of the city. The insitution was also responsible to do things such as furnishing the Divan-ı Hümayun and Topkapı Palace and preparing the tents and furnishings needed at the banquets. Team employees reside in their own private barracks. These barracks consists of sections such as rooms, fountains, a mosque and kitchen. There were also workshops for the employees and warehouses to stock their materials like felts, various weaving materials and all sorts of equipment that is crucial for designing and producing these astonishing tents.
