Abstract (EN)

The thesis titled "Space and Religion: The Case of Sakarya Orhan Gazi Mosque" investigates how a religious place affects its environment in general and the relationship between space and belonging. In particular, it deals with determining the sociological position of Orhan Gazi Mosque. Mosque/space, space/mosque relationship are among the main topics of this thesis. This thesis study has been studied and conveyed to investigate the space-human interaction and whether there are effects on each other. The results of the studies on space carried out by various theorists such as Lefebvre, Soja, Foucault, Urry and Harvey have been evaluated, tried to be understood and inferences have been made. Within the framework of this thesis, how the physical (space) and social elements in Sakarya Adapazarı district affect the environment and whether these elements have an intrusive structure against the social structure was carried out by qualitative research method. It is seen that Sakarya Orhan Gazi Mosque, which is a religious place, affects the society spiritually. It can be said that the mosque creates a sense of identity and belonging in people. With this thesis, it is concluded that the mutual interaction between society and religious space constantly renews itself.
