Abstract (EN)
This thesis examines the development of letter art and its reflections in Turkey. Although letter art is considered one of the traditional forms of communication, it should also be considered as a means of artistic expression. This art form, born under the influence of the Fluxus movement, prioritizes communication and content. Artists such as Ray Johnson, Edward M. Plunkett, and Yoko Ono played important roles in the early periods of letter art. Although the art of letters was rarely mentioned in the beginning in Turkey, over time it began to be mentioned more frequently and became the subject of comprehensive activities until today. It is thought that the project carried out within the scope of the thesis contributes to the development of artistic abilities and communication skills of primary school students. Moreover, it can be said that he has partially succeeded in transferring the illustrated letter tradition, which is our cultural heritage, to future generations. This study aims to shed light not only on the past but also on the future of letter art. The path of letter art still extends to unexplored horizons. Could this art be the language of the future? This study is a step towards tracing this problem. The suggestions included in the study are methods that support the further promotion and representation of mail art in Turkey internationally. In this way, Turkish mail art can reach a wider audience on international platforms and contribute to cultural exchange. As a result, with this research, the importance of letter art in Turkish society and the art world is emphasized, and it is thought that an important step has been taken to introduce and popularize this art movement to future generations. With the realization of the project, the pioneering role of Gaziantep University in this field was emphasized and an important step was taken to popularize art. Gaziantep University has played an important role in carrying the art of illustrated letters to future generations and making this art form available to a wider audience.
