The use of war in Propp's functional approach in Mel Gisbson films: A study on Cesur Yürek, Patriotic and Doomsday films

In this study, the morphological analysis method of Vladimir Propp's method was used to determine the degree of resemblance between the narrative structures of the three most impressive films of Mel GİBSON, one of the most powerful examples of Hollywood films that left their mark in memory in today's cinema. Propp evaluates the structure of tales and evaluates it in the form of 7 characters and 31 functions. THE PATRIOT, BRAVEHEART and APOCALLYPTO (Mel GIBSON),are films and directors selected films. As a result of the Propp study, the main functions and characters that exist in all tales were determined. According to the results of Propp's work, fairy tales begin with an initial state and then an evil or deficiency appears. The hero of the fairy tale begins to fight to eliminate this evil or lack. This struggle takes place under the guidance of a sender. The hero is given a magic object with a number of powers by a donor to eliminate the difficulties or evils that confront him. The presence of people who help the hero is present in the tale. The hero is victorious after several battles with the attacker. In some of the fairy tales, when the hero who triumphs returns to his country, he is confronted with the false claims of so-called fake heroes. The hero is offered a difficult task to go through; the hero does this job and punishes the fake hero. A happy ending for the hero results in either marriage or a number of awards. It was found that the films examined overlapped with Propp's tale narrative structure. BRAVE HEARTS film 17 out of 31 function VATANSEVER also 25 and 31 function in the film APOCALLYPTO the film was determined in 19 of them 31 function. When the character analysis was examined, all 7 characters were found in all the films examined. Based on these results, it is seen that today's popular films are compatible with Propp's analysis technique and there are no significant differences between them.
