Abstract (EN)
We have investigated the antibacterial effects of Melissa officinalis's Methanolic leaf extract on the Gram (+) and Gram (-) microorganisms and evaluated the protective effects of leaf extract on yeast genomic DNA [Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4741 (MATa his3Δ1 leu2Δ0 met15Δ0 ura3Δ0)] upon oxidative shock. In this study antioxidant activity of the Melissa officinalis was determined using the comet assay. Results indicated that M.officinalis extract showed antimicrobial activity. We also observed that M. officinalis's ethanolic leaf extract protect the DNA against the damaging effect of hydrogen peroxide. Results suggested that there was statistically significant correlation between ethanolic leaf extract dilutions and antigenotoxic activity.
