Abstract (EN)

The Melkite Chronicle, which has been the subject of research in the field of Syriac historiography, was written within the tradition of history writing created for centuries through Syriac priests. Although this chronicle has been the subject of some studies in the west and translated into foreign languages, research in this field is still in rudimentary level in Turkey. In this master's thesis, we tried to translate this chronicle into Turkish for the first time in order to contribute to Syriac studies in Turkish language for the benefit of the readers. The Melkite Chronicle is a text in the field of Syriac historiography whose author is not known for certain. In other words, it has not been possible to identify the author of the chronicle from the text or any other source. In the Introduction section, this thesis discusses the purpose and importance of the thesis, its limitations and the sources used in the study. Chapter One, entitled "Political, Social and Religious Background", provides some explanation about the political, social and religious conditions at the time the chronicle was written. Next, some information is given on the Assyrian race, their churches and their status as dhimmis. In the next stage, the author of the work, the copy of the text and some updated information about the chronicle are given. Chapter Two presents the Syriac version of the Chronicle and its Turkish translation. The final section provides a comprehensive evaluation of the Chronicle and presents the bibliographical references and appendices. Key Words: Byzantine, Council of Chalcedon, Chronicle of Melkite, Assyrians.
