Abstract (EN)
Aim: Breast cancer is the most common cancer type among women across the world. The pathogenesis of breast cancer is not well-known because of its complex heterogeneity. Caytaxin protein is encoded by ATCAY gene located on chromosome 19 in human. Many studies showed that Caytaxin is highly expressed in cortex, cerebellum and olfactory regions of human brain. In terms of structure it contains a conserved BCH domain. It is suggested that BCH domain is the functional unit of caytaxin. To the best of our knowledge there is no published data on the expression and roles of Caytaxin in breast cancer in the literature. In this study the expression of Caytaxin is aimed to be determined in immortalized breast epithelium cell and breast cancer cell lines. Material and Methods: In this study, we examined MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines and MCF10A, immortalized epithelium cell line. The total amount of protein was determined by Lowry method and Western Blot method was used to show the expression profile of Caytaxin protein. Results: The caytaxin expression was detected in all three cell lines. The expression of caytaxin levels were 1.925 fold higher (p<0.05) in MCF7 cells but 0.632 fold lower (p<0.0001) in MDA-MB-231 cells Conclusion: Our data suggest that Caytaxin is not only expressed in neural cell, but also differentially expressed that in immortalized breast epithelium and breast cancer cell lines
