Abstract (EN)

Aim: High blood sugar levels provide a suitable environment for the growth of breast cancer cells and increase the risk of breast cancer in patients with diabetes. It is suggested that diabetes treatment may also be effective in the treatment of breast cancer cells. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the use of the GLP-1 agonist liraglutide, which is used in the treatment of diabetes, in the treatment of breast cancer and to determine the amount of apoptosis of liraglutide in breast cancer cells. Material and Method: In this study, MDA-MB-231, MCF-7 breast cancer cells were used. Cell proliferation of this treatment in cells with applied liraglutide treatment was tested with MTS. Western blotting method and annexin PI staining test were used to elucidate its role in cell death. Results: MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells were incubated for 72 hours with different concentrations of liraglutide 3400 nM and 4800 nM, respectively. The amount of apoptosis in the liraglutide treated groups increased 8 times in MDA-MB-231 cells and 47 times in MCF-7 cells compared to the untreated group. All results were analyzed using the t-test and found p<0.05. Conclusion: Liraglutide has been found to reduce proliferation of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cells and stimulate apoptosis in these cells. These results raise the hope that liraglutide can be used as a new treatment option in the treatment of breast cancer. Keywords: Apoptosis, Liraglutide, Breast Cancer
