Evaluation of the prognostic importance of Aurora Kinase B and its relationship with clinicopathological parameters in breast cancer patients AIM: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. Aurora Kinase B is a serine/threonine kinase family enzyme involved in the formation and development of breast cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of Aurora Kinase B enzyme in breast cancer patients and the changes in its levels in Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2 positive and triple negative breast cancer subtypes and its correlation with clinicopathologic parameters. METHOD: Aurora Kinase B protein levels were analyzed by ELISA in serum samples obtained from 17 healthy controls, 22 Luminal A, 22 Luminal B, 22 HER2 positive and 22 triple negative breast cancer patients. RESULTS: Aurora Kinase B levels of breast cancer patients were higher than Aurora Kinase B levels of healthy women (p=0.018). Aurora Kinase B levels of patients with Luminal A and HER2+ tumors were higher than those of healthy women (p=0.014 and p=0.034). Hormone receptor positivity was highly correlated with Aurora Kinase B levels (p=0.009). HER-2 receptor positivity was associated with Aurora Kinase B levels to a low degree (p=0.067). CONCLUSION: Our study showed that Aurora Kinase B enzyme levels were higher in breast cancer patients compared to healthy women. Increased Aurora Kinase B levels were found in Luminal A and HER2+ breast cancers. By revealing the relationship between the increased activity of Aurora Kinase B enzyme and molecular subtypes, we contribute to the development of new treatment strategies for breast cancer.
