Mamluk Naval Forces

In our thesis we have tried to examine ?Mamluk Naval Forces?. The thesis is composed of preface, introduction, references, five chapters, result, bibliography and abstract.In introduction part of thesis general information about Entry of Egypt into sovereignty of Islam, Navy of Islam and some issues about subject were mentioned to be familiar with the topic. In the references part, primary sources of the subject which were used in the thesis were introduced.Naval activities of states which were either established or gained ascendancy over Egypt till Mamluks briefly examined.In the second part, naval activities on Nile River during Mamluks and the role of the Nile River during Crusades pointed. Nubya Campaigns which were made on Nile narrated.In the third chapter, naval activities on Mediterranean mentioned, Cyprus Campaign of Baybars, elimination of the remaining of Crusades in Syria, Frankish attack to Alexandria, struggle with Franks, Cyprus and Rhodes Campaigns and Ottoman-Mamluk relationships examined.In the fourth chapter, naval activities on Red Sea mentioned, hearten of Abbasid Caliphate in Egypt, relations with Resuloğulları State, Age of Discovery and struggle with Portuguese touched.In the fifth section, Mamluks and navy, naval powers of Mamluks, weapons which were used in naval wars, navy demonstrations, ceremony and maneuvers, festival celebration concerning Nile River, raw materials of ships, shipyards, ports, port cities and defense of port cities and at last ships which were used during Mamluks era attempted to explain.As a result, in this thesis attempts to study Mamluk Naval Forces in the light of sources.Information had tried to be given explanatory, not judgmentally, with the limitation of methodology and science.Key WordsMamluksNaval ForcesMediterraneanRedseaNile River
