Abstract (EN)

In the Ottoman Turkish period, it is possible to study phonetical characteristics of Turkish with the help of vocabulary in dictionaries, grammmar books and speech books (e.i. transcribed or or translated texts) written on Turkish with Latin alphabet. The phonetical analysis of the words in the Thesaurus Linguarum Orientalium Turcicæ-Arabicæ-Persicæ (Treasure of Oriental Languages Turkish – Arabic – Persian) which Meninski's Ottoman Turkish Lexicon has brought to the present day as a whole with a four-volume dictionary and grammar book that complements the dictionary constitutes the main axis of this study. In this thesis the vocabulary material was enriched by including translated texts of European authors such as Meninski (1680) besides Megiser (1612), Molino (1641), Harsany (1672) for 17th century, and for the next one Vaughan (1709) Holdermann (1730), Viguier (1790). Thus the material in hand has been evaluated with necessary explanations in four parts where changes in phonetics are analysed. To these evaluations, examinations on the Arabic alphabet material in Parigi (1665) dictionary, which is one of the sources of Meninski's Thesaurus, are also added. In addition, monographic studies in which translated text materials are assessed by European authors are also included in the parts of this study. Thereafter, it is tried to obtain results about a historical period of Turkish from the material transferred to the text with facilities of another alphabet. The introduction is devoted to the explanations for the texts studied. In the study, the vulgarized words recorded by Meninski in Thesaurus (=Treasure) were matched with their equivalents in the texts of some other European writers and the material in hand was examined in four parts, e.i. omission, epentesis, inflexion, phonetical transformation. In conclusion, assessments on analysed material are discussed in all parts of the thesis.
