Investigation of the relationship between proprioception sensation and lower extremity muscle strength and somatotype in meniscus damaged individualis Aim: This study was carried out to determine whether the sensation of proprioception and lower limb muscle strength varies in different somatotypes in individuals with meniscal damage. Material and Method: This study was carried out in İnönü University Faculty of Medicine Anatomy Department and Orthopedics and Traumatology Department. 74 patients between the ages 18-45 and 71 healthy volunteers diagnosed with meniscus damage were included in the study. The sense of proprioception of the knee joint was evaluated by measuring the angular error differences by means of a digital inclinometer adapted on the goniometer. Hand dynamometer was used for isometric muscle strength measurement. Anthropometric measurements was performed to determine in the somatotype. Results: Patient and healthy group somatotypes were found close to each other in the form of central, ectomorph, endomorph and mesamorph. When the relation of lower limb muscle strength among the somatotypes was examined, the muscle strength of the mesamorph group was found to be highest. When the relationship between proprioception sense and somatotypes was examined, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. In terms of the sense of proprioception, the comparison of the patient and healthy knee was statistically significantly better at 30°, 45° and 60°, while no significant difference was found at 15°. Conclusion: In meniscal damaged individuals, the left hip adduction muscle strength was significantly higher in the mesamorph group than in the central and ectomorph group. When the relationship between the muscle strength and the somatotype of healthy individuals was examined, it was concluded that the muscle strength of the ectomorph group was significantly weaker. While muscle strength varied according to somatotypes, no significant difference was found in terms of sense of propsioception. Preparing treatment programs suitable for the gender, age, anthropometric characteristics and somatotype of the person to prevent injuries and provide maximum benefit from the treatment will enable people to return to their daily life activities quickly and minimize their labor losses.
