SUMMARYGrowth factors affect cell development and replication as well as determinecell physiology by binding to certain cell receptors. One of these factors, (EGF)induces mitosis in epithelium and mesothelium derived cells. This study is aimed toimmunohistochemically analyze the distribution of EGF receptors (EGF-R) in tubauterine of rats at various phases of estrous cycle.Tissues sampled at certain phases of menstrual cycle were blocked into theparaffin after survey under light microscope. Samples treated with EGF-R primerantibody were analyzed immunohistochemically under the Olympus BH2photon/light microscope. As a result, EGF-R expression was not detected on tuba uterine muscle layerand vessel wall, but for remaining its level varied at these phases. At proestrous,EGF-R was homogenous in epithelial cell cytoplasm, denser in apical cell membrane, low in serosa layer mesothelial cells external cell surface and ranging from low todenser in connective tissues. At estrous, however EGF-R expression was higher inapical cytoplasm of cilial cells on the upper surface of mucous folding, but low inlamina propriya. Expression was detectable in some cells near the vessel wall withinconnective tissue of serosa, however denser in mesothelia. At the metaestrous, besidehigher expression in both apical cytoplasm and cell membrane of epithelia and somecells in lamina propriya, no immunohistochemical staining was depicted in serosa. At the diestrous expression at epithelia layer and in cell membrane was denser andlow in seroasa.Consequently, blood estrogen level dependent EGF-R expression wasdetermined in tuba uterine.
