Evaluation of clinical features and treatments of central nervous system glial cell tumor treated at our center

Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of our study is to reveal the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with central nervous system glial cell tumor diagnosed, followed up and treated in a center for 30 years, to determine the first presentation complaints and the time to diagnosis, tumor pathological class, grade, treatments applied, survival rates, to identify late side effects and sequelae. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 143 patients diagnosed with childhood Central Nervous System glial cell tumor in Dokuz Eylul University Medical Faculty Hospital, Department of Pediatric Oncology, Department of Pediatric Oncology between 1987- 2021 were included. Results: Of the cases, 76 (53.1%) were male and 67 (46.9%) were female. The female/male ratio of the participants was calculated as 1/1.13. The mean age at diagnosis was 89.75 months, with a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 218 months. The mean time from clinical complaints to diagnosis was 8.28 weeks (minimum/maximum: 1/48 weeks). The treatments applied consisted of combinations of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. 38 patients (26.6%) received only surgery, 4 patients (2.8%) received only chemotherapy regimens, 8 patients (5.6%) received only radiotherapy, 6 patients (4.2%) received surgery and chemotherapy regimens. , 19 patients (13.3%) underwent surgery and radiotherapy, 37 patients (25.9%) were treated with surgery, chemotherapy regimens and radiotherapy, 18 patients received chemotherapy regimens and radiotherapy, 13 patients (9.1%) decided to follow up had been taken. Conclusion: Our results show that the primary surgery performed increases the OS and EFS values. In this respect, the results of our study were found to be similar when compared with the literature.
