Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to identify the problems faced by the enterprises dealing with the production of ornamental plants in Mersin Province and its districts by supporting them with 2019 survey studies and to offer solutions to the problems. Mersin Province and its districts are in a suitable location for growing ornamental plants for twelve months in the greenhouse and open field in terms of both climate and geographical location; The fact that the province has a large metropolitan area and a port that has the feature of entry and exit of plant products and a national-international production and marketing network due to the presence of its customs has caused the interest of the operators here to increase and create a commercial sub-sector. Mersin Province has an advantageous position due to its climate structure, vegetation period, marketing opportunity, cheap and high quality cultivation. In order to express the position and importance of Mersin Province, statistical data obtained mostly from individuals, institutions and operators showed the current situation. The majority of the sector is established and operates with its own resources. The operators are generally willing to organize and stated that they will continue to produce ornamental plants and expressed their opinion to increase production. In addition, there is generally a family business organization in the region. According to the determinations made, the majority of the manufacturing enterprises want to move their businesses further, grow them and increase the variety of production patterns. Production and trade potential were tried to be determined with official statistics. More cut flowers are produced in businesses, and the number of businesses for indoor and outdoor production and marketing is increasing. Problems were identified through surveys, and the producers did not have enough technical knowledge, trained personnel, which we call qualified personnel, and they could not have enough organization because they could not communicate adequately with producer unions; It has been determined that they mostly cultivate with the methods they know, and although they seem open to agricultural innovation, they are closed to innovation because they cannot take enough risks.
