Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the information technologies using skills of the students attending to the Departments of Office Management and Secretariat in the vocational school of higher education and evaluate their skills in relation to the needs of the related sectors.The universe of the study consists of the students (N=10310) attending the program of Office management and secretarial works İn 2009-2010 Academic year and related offices and businesses in the sector. The sampling of the study consists of second-year students (n=377) from the Departments of Office Management and Secretariat of eight different vocational schools of higher education located in four different cities of the Aegean region and managers (n=53) of the organizations where the students do the apprenticeship.The data collected through questionnaires (?: 0,954; ?: 0,926) were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, arithmetic means) and t-test, Chi-square. The significance level was set to be 0.05%.The findings of the study revealed that there was a significant difference between the information technologies using skills of the students and those of the managers. While the managers consider the students? skills adequate to meet the expectations of the sectors, the students themselves consider their skills inadequate to meet the expectations of the sectors.Keywords: Office Management and Secretariat, İnformation Technologies
