Evaluation of the program of hair styling II in division of hairdressing in vocatıonal high college

Maden, NehirDivision of Hairdressing Program in Vocational High College has been in practicesince 2003- 2004 academic year. The curriculum of Hair Care II from the vocational coursesof the program requires the teaching of two important vocational applications, permanentwave and defreeze.This study was carried out to evaluate the curriculum of Hair Design II Course inCoiffeur Department of Vocational Colleges of Turkey in accordance with the opinions ofstudents taking this course. The evaluation of the program enables us to find out the strengthsand weaknesses and it provides necessary data for other researchers who will study on thedevelopment of the program.Research population is composed of students of Coiffeur Education Departments ofVocational Colleges who took Hair Design II courses at the end of 2005-2006 academic year.Hairdressing Programs exist in three colleges in Turkey for 2005-2006 academic year;Çukurova University, Adana Vocational College; Gazi University, Ankara VocationalCollege; Mersin University, Social Sciences Vocational College respectively. There are 146students who took Hair Design II courses at the end of 2005-2006 academic year in thesecolleges. The study was carried out with 123 students accessible.In the beginning of the study, resources related to the subject matter were searched anda questionnaire was developed as a data collection instrument. The questionnaire includedquestions to find out personal information and the opinions of the students regarding thecurriculum (content, materials, educational background, teaching methods, evaluationtechniques, and performance levels). In the evaluation of the objectives of the program, aimswith regard to the project were analyzed in the light of theoretical evidence and conformity tothe scientific criteria was discussed.Statistical analyses of the data were carried out with SPSS program. Frequency andaverage techniques were used in these statistical analyses.The study is composed of four chapters. In the first chapter, the problem wasstated. In the second chapter, research method was emphasized. In the third chapter of thestudy, objectives of Hair Design II were evaluated and the opinions of students concerning thecurriculum were included. In the last chapter, suggestions were presented regarding HairDesign II course in the curriculum in accordance with the research findings.In accordance with the findings of the study, these results are put forward: 1. Statement ofthe objectives is not of a certain quality. 2. Content is not classified gradually. 3. Lesson hourspared for the course is not enough. 4. Physical capacity and equipments of the teachingenvironment are not adequate. 5. Teachers do not employ teaching methods and techniqueseffectively. 6. The knowledge and skills acquired in Hair Styling II is employed in professionor workplace.
