The effect of professional burnout on job satisfaction: The case of Batman University

The study aims to examine the effect of occupational burnout on job satisfaction among academic and administrative staff working at Batman University. In modern working life, heavy workloads, stress factors, institutional pressures, and an intense competitive environment stand out as the main factors contributing to the development of burnout syndrome among individuals. The phenomenon of burnout exhibits a multidimensional structure consisting of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment, while job satisfaction refers to the overall level of fulfillment and satisfaction that employees derive from their work. The analyses conducted reveal that the level of occupational burnout has a statistically significant negative effect on job satisfaction. An increase in emotional exhaustion is shown to significantly reduce employees' satisfaction derived from both intrinsic aspects of work (such as the nature of the job, meaningfulness, and creativity) and extrinsic aspects (such as salary, status, and working conditions). This finding indicates that burnout has a comprehensive and multidimensional negative impact on job satisfaction.
