Abstract (EN)

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important public health problem worldwide, and its highest prevalence in adult populations causes high costs for public health systems. Untreated, the MetS is known to increase the risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). 100 individuals between the ages of 18-70 who were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and applied to the Internal Medicine Department of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul between May-June 2023 were included in this study. The aim of the study was to determine the general characteristics, nutritional habits and food consumption status of patients with metabolic syndrome and to determine the relationship between inflammation and chronotype with the Dietary Inflammatory Index (Dİİ) scores calculated from the amount of food consumption. Depression-Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), Morning- Evening Questionnaire and Food Consumption Record were administered to the participants by face-to- face interviews. Dİİ scores of the participants in general indicate that they have a pro- inflammatory diet. Dİİ scores of female participants were higher than males (p=0.066). At the same time, while the depression score was significantly higher in female participants, the stress score was significantly higher in male participants. Anxiety, depression, and stress scores differ significantly in terms of chronotype groups (p<0.05). In addition, depression score and protein percentage were significantly correlated with 33.6% negative (r=-0.336, p<0.01), and 26.4% positive correlations with depression score and carbohydrates (r=0.264, p<0.01). It has been determined that individuals with metabolic syndrome have a pro-inflammatory diet. In addition, depression, anxiety and stress scores in individuals with metabolic syndrome also revealed that individuals should be evaluated in terms of these parameters. New studies with large participants, in which nutritional habits and biochemical parameters are evaluated in individuals, will contribute to the literature.
