Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between diet and lifestyle inflammation burden and serum chemerin and asprosin levels in postmenopausal women with metabolic syndrome (MetS). It is a case-control study. The study included 45 postmenopausal women with MetS (case group) and 45 postmenopausal women without MetS (control group), totaling 90 volunteers aged 45–64 years. The questionnaire administered to participants included general information, anthropometric measurements, bone mineral density (measured by DEXA), health information, family history, dietary habits, biochemical findings, food consumption frequency, and a three-day food consumption record. Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII), Energy-Adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII), Dietary Inflammation Score (DIS), Lifestyle Inflammation Score (LIS), Diet and Lifestyle Inflammation Score (DLIS), and Index of Nutrition Quality (INQ) scores were calculated. The mean DII, E-DII, DIS, LIS, and DLIS scores in the case group were 0.2±3.46, -0.2±2.95, -0.6±2.33, 1.3±0.39, and 0.8±2.43, respectively; while in the control group, they were -0.1±4.15, -0.6±3.40, -0.1±2.33, 0.4±0.51, and 0.3±2.56, respectively. The LIS score of postmenopausal women with MetS was found to be significantly higher than that of women without MetS (p<0.001). The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) values for the risk of MetS were 2.827 (2.106-6.412) for serum chemerin (p=0.012) and serum asprosin 5.402 (1.110–16.962) (p=0.037). In the INQ assessment of metabolic syndrome risk, it was found to be 4.571 (p=0.001) higher in those with vitamin B6 deficiency and 3.967 (p=0.007) higher in those with vitamin K deficiency. In the control group, a positive correlation was found between serum chemerin and DII and E-DII scores (p<0.05). It was determined that these adipokines are associated with dietary inflammation, but this association is limited. A more comprehensive assessment of diet and lifestyle behaviors for inflammation would be beneficial in developing more effective healthy lifestyle interventions.
