Investigation of the processability of metallic biomaterials using edm method

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the Ti6A14V and Rex734 metallic biomaterials were machined by electrical discharge machining (EDM) process. In the experiments, the pulse interval time (10µs), dielectric circulation pressure (5 Bar) and gap voltage (100V) were fixed, while pulse duration (2-8us) and current (8-32A) factors were choosen as alternative. After experiments, the EDMed surfaces were examined by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and 3D surface topography device. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) analyzes were taken from the machined surfaces and surface crack density (SCD), recast layer thickness (RLT) and average surface roughness (Ra) values were measured. The relationships between the machining parameters and measured values were determined by linear regression method. The statistical effects of factors on the performance outputs were determined with the help of analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique. Furthermore a support vector machine (SVM) model was developed to classife the choosen material As a consequence; it was observed that the SCD values were decreased with increase of pulse duration and current for both materials; whenever RLT, MRR and Ra were tendency of increase with EDM parameters.
