Abstract (EN)
Metal foam materials have an important place among the current developments of materials science. Metallic foams are important materials used in many industrial applications due to their light weight and high strength. Metallic foams are used for different purposes in a wide variety of fields such as energy, sound, radiation and vibration damping; silencers, filtration and heat exchangers. In the first part of the study, a literature review on the production methods of metallic foams and the effect of foaming agents was carried out. This review explains how different metal alloys behave together with the agents used in the foaming process and the physical properties of the foams obtained. In the second part, the finite element method and the mathematical models used for the analysis are described. The material model and its equations used to analyse the behaviour of metallic foams using the finite element method are described. In the third section, the results of the finite element analysis for a given model are presented. The mechanical properties of metallic foams such as strain stress and deformation under compression loading are analysed. These analyses investigate the behaviour of metallic foam structures with different loading rates. In the last section, the results of the study and the findings are summarised. The results aim to investigate that the production and mechanical properties of metallic foams can be analysed by finite element method and the analyses performed by finite element method can be used in design processes and material selection.
