Investigation of relationship between IL-17 cytokine and lipoxin A4 level in serum of metastatic breast cancer

Metastatic form represents more than ninety percent of breast cancer deaths. As inflammation found to be necessary for metastasis and tumor progression, and the balance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory immune response is important for tumorogenesis. Our study aimed to investigate proinflammtory cytokine IL-17 and antiinflammtory lipid mediator LXA4 levels in patients with metastatic breast cancer and their relationship with one another. serum samples were collected from 35 Libyan patients with stage IV breast cancer, and the concentration of interleukin-17 and lipoxin A4 were measured using enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay. The results showed insignificant different in level of IL-17 between patients with triple negative and triple positive patients (p=0.8). in addition no significant different in LXA4 level between triple negative and positive patients (p=0.5). there was positive correlation between LXA4 and IL-17 (p=0.006). Our results have shown significant direct relationship between lipoxin A4 and interleukin-17 in metastatic stage of breast cancer. Further researches involving large sampled group study required to evaluate role of lipoxin A4 and interleukin-17 in metastasis and their role in patients who ER negative and triple negative
