Abstract (EN)

Evaluation of Clinical Features of Cancer Patients Undergoing Metastasectomy and Survival Contribution of Metastasectomy Purpose: Treatment and management of metastatic disease is of great importance in cancer treatment. It is thought that in cancer patients with limited area and number of metastases, life expectancy can be improved and even cure can be achieved with local ablative treatments, especially metastasectomy (11). In our study, it was planned to investigate the clinical characteristics of cancer patients who underwent metastasectomy and the contribution of metastasectomy to survival. Materials and methods: Ninety one patients who underwent 117 metastasectomies at Akdeniz University Hospital were evaluated retrospectively. Patients' clinical and metastasectomy characteristics such as age, gender, primary tumor histology, stage at the time of diagnosis of the primary tumor, treatments given for the primary tumor, time of metastasis detection, time of surgery, recurrence, surgical margins, treatments given after metastasectomy, presence of recurrent metastasectomy and survival duration and rates were examined. Findings: The median follow-up time was 47.13 months (min: 5 max: 166, 95% CI). The median disease-free survival time of the patients was 22 months (14-29), and the overall survival was 72 months (71-184). Both disease-free survival and overall survival were significantly longer in patients with metachronous metastases compared to patients with synchronous metastases (p: 0.001). The time from diagnosis to the detection of metastasis was calculated as 46 months (31.4-60.5) and a positive correlation was found with overall survival (p <0.01, R: 0.779). Gender, age, primary diagnosis, stage at the time of diagnosis, treatments given for primary diagnosis, tumor location, metastasis location, operation time, surgical margin, and post-metastasectomy treatments did not have a significant effect on survival. Conclusion: Long-term survival has been achieved in advanced cancer patients who can undergo metastasectomy. Larger series are needed to examine the factors affecting metastasectomy. Key Words: Cancer, colon cancer, metastasectomy, prognostic factors
