Protection of intellectual property rights on metaverse world

One of the most popular and attention-grabbing technologies of our time is blockchain technology. Introduced to us through Satoshi Nakamoto's paper "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System", this technology causes reliable and transparent transactions to be conducted without the need for intermediaries. One of the most complex areas of use of this technology, which brings a new perspective in many areas such as payment system and supply chain, has been the metaverse world. Its aim to enable people to perform most of the activities they can perform in the physical world, in the virtual world and to have digital twins in the virtual world, it has been in great demand with its emergence. The emergence of social, professional and commercial activities in the metaverse world has brought along many problems that need to be solved from a legal point of view. In this study, the legal problems that may be encountered in terms of copyright and trademark law have been discussed and solutions have been tried to be proposed on how the existing regulations in these areas of law can be applied to the metaverse world. The metaverse world has prepared a great environment for the exhibition and sale of non-funguble token (NFT) and works of art within the blockchain technology and the marketing and sale of the products of brands on these platforms. For all these reasons, it is of high importance to evaluate copyright and trademark rights in terms of the metaverse world.
