Abstract (EN)

In this study, individuals experiencing the Metaverse have been investigated regarding their construction of new identities and self-presentations. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven participants using a qualitative research method, supplemented by participant observation technique. Individuals who realize themselves with their avatars in the Metaverse can meet many needs ranging from social life to economy through these platforms, and it is anticipated that the scope of influence of the Metaverse will diversify in the future. In the literature, it has been observed that there are many studies addressing the opportunities and risks of the Metaverse, as well as its technical usage. However, it has been noted that there is no study that empirically investigates new identity construction and self-presentation in the Metaverse. Therefore, it is believed that this study will make a significant contribution to the field.
