Imaginary body on Michael Chekhov technique and the Good Soldier Šveyk as a sample

Michael Chekhov, whose fame stands out to be known as the best student of Stanislavsky, rejected the System's first attempts which he was one of the experimental subjects of, at the Moscow Art Theatre; and in regards of approaching to the role developed a new technique that he named psycho-physical technique. This technique is based on the idea of the wholeness and the simultaneous operation of actor's psychology and body which were taken independently in the System. The technique developed by Michael Chekhov, in this study, was acknowledged as a real example of Stanislavsky's 'do not be a slave of my method, create your own method' desire and considered as a method in the sense of Chekhov's 'the way that he used to approach to the role in his own acting study'. In this study, the intellectual foundations of the Chekhov method were investigated; for students who are eager to study on the method, the five principles that Chekhov gave as the foundation of the technique were examined; after the theoretical definitions of psychological gesture and imaginary body concepts were made, which were taken to the focus of this study, these concepts were evaluated in the light of the practical results of rehearsal process of Švejk role in Eskişehir Municipality Theatre's production of The Good Soldier Švejk.
