The formal and contextual analysis of Michael Haneke movie posters

Banners, a product of graphic design, are developed as a combination of words and illustrated materials to be displayed in spaces accessible to each individual. When it is thought that it is designed to convey a certain information, concept or message, poster art can be described as an intentional art. The fact that the poster, which has turned into a kind of communication tool function because it provides message or information transmission, interacts with the audience makes it meaningful to focus on its artistic aspect. Posters, which can be understood at a glance, can convey announcements or advertisements to the audience and contain social, political and cultural themes as well as production-consumption issues, are convenient tools for placing certain messages in people's subconscious. Movie posters, which enable the recording of cultural phenomena within the scope of personal and collective history, are examined within the scope of cultural posters. Movie posters provide visual access to information about the movie, while reminding them in the context of time and space, they allow to place movies in a historical, aesthetic and cultural framework. Movie posters are cultural artifacts that require attention as they reflect the understanding of art of the period in which they emerged, and also contain variable meanings. A qualitative research has been conducted that examines the harmony between typographic and visual elements of the posters of motion pictures directed by Michael Haneke in line with the basic design principles and elements. It has been seen that the typographic and visual arrangements of the poster designs of Haneke's movies are in harmony with each other and with the subject, expression style and atmosphere of the film in terms of form and content.
