Comparison of craniocervical angle, pain, disability and quality of life in individuals with migrai̇ne and tension-type headache

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to evaluate the craniocervical angle, pain, disability, fatique and quality of life in individuals with migraine and tension-type headaches. A total of 66 individuals, including 22 individuals with migraine with an average age of 32 years, 22 individuals with tension-type headache with an average age of 34 years, and 22 healthy individuals with an average age of 37 years, diagnosed by a neurological doctor, were included in the study. After querying the participants' physical and sociodemographic information, photogrammetry was used for CCA assessment, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain intensity, Pain Disability Index (PDI) and Headache Impact Test (HIT) for disability, Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) for quality of life, and Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) for fatigue level. The average pain scores for individuals were 8.77 ± 1.58 for migraine, and 6.4 ± 2.21 for TTH. The HIT total score (p=0.0001), NHP pain score (p=0.001), FSS total score (p=0.004) were higher in both migraine and TTH groups compared to healthy individuals. NHP Sleep (p=0.012), NHP Physical Activity (p=0.013), and NHP total score (p=0.004) were also higher in individuals with migraine compared to healthy individuals. In the course of this study, it was found that individuals with migraine and TTH exhibit similar levels of CCA values. However, individuals diagnosed with migraine demonstrated higher VAS values compared to those with TTH. Additionally, individuals with migraine and TTH displayed poorer scores in terms of quality of life, disability, and fatigue parameters compared to healthy individuals. As a result, it is concluded that a comprehensive assessment of individuals diagnosed with migraine and TTH will play a crucial role in determining a physiotherapy program tailored to each individual.
