Examination of the impact of microgrid applications on power distribution system reliability

Abstract (EN)

Electrical power system reliability is vital in meeting the electrical energy demand of distribution system users at economically acceptable costs and with the minimum possible outage and frequency. It is accepted that almost 90% of power outages are caused by failures in the Electricity Distribution System. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the reliability of Alancuma feeder of Sakarya region. Analytical calculation approach, Monte Carlo simulation method (MCS) and ETAP (Electrical Transient and Analysis Program) program were used in the reliability analysis study made using data from SEDAŞ Distribution Company. With these approaches, reliability indices values such as SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI and ENS were compared and close results were obtained. These results were accepted as the basic status reliability indices values of the feeder and the effects of micro grid applications consisting of wind energy source, solar energy source, energy storage unit and loads into the one-line diagram modeled in ETAP environment were examined. In the last parts of the thesis study, the SAIFI and SAIDI values of Alancuma feeder were compared with the average SAIFI and SAIDI values of Turkey distribution systems and system improvement recommendations were made.
