DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN SMPS SYSTEM WITH MICROCONTROLLER FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROL AND ITS APPLICATION TO THERMOELECTRIC SYSTEMS (Ph.D. Thesis) Hakan IŞIK GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY January 2002 ABSTRACT In this study, a power supply and control system was designed and realized for the reliable control of the temperature of thermoelectric systems. This system is "SMPS system with microcontroller for temperature control". With the realized system, the output voltage of the SMPS can be adjusted proportionally to the temperature. The purpose of this system is to adjust its output voltage and current depending on the temperature. It is made possible to select sensors in 7 different zones by incorporating a microcontroller in the design. The temperature value of the selected sensor can be displayed on the LCD display, the set value can be entered from a keypad and this set value can also be shown on the display. The realized system also incorporates the control function of the mater cooling system's circulation pump which is a must for thermoelectric cooling systems. The system was used in the model application of the Medical Thermohypoterm device at first, secondly in the Medical Thermoelectric Microtom device and at last in the Thermoelectric Medical Kit. In all there applications, the stable temperature control for different temperature levels was achieved. The SMPS system with microcontroller for temperature control, which was designed and realized with this study, has been tested in three different thermoelectric systems and according to the results it has been found to be applicable to different thermoelectric systems.
