Abstract (EN)

In modern engineering and industrial systems, enhancing heat transfer efficiency and flow control stands out as a key area of research. In this thesis study, the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) micropolar nanofluid over a moving Riga plate are investigated theoretically and numerically. Micropolar fluids, which account for microstructures and the local rotational motion of particles, offer the ability to model the behavior of complex fluids—such as polymer suspensions, biological fluids, and colloidal solutions—more realistically compared to classical Newtonian models. The Riga plate, used for flow control, is a special surface that generates an external electromagnetic field (Lorentz force) on the fluid by means of magnets and electrodes embedded on its surface. The mathematical model of the problem is formulated with a set of partial differential equations comprising the continuity, momentum, angular momentum, energy, and concentration equations. These equations are reduced to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using suitable similarity transformations. The resulting system of equations is solved using the bvp4c numerical method in MATLAB, which provides high accuracy for boundary value problems. Within the scope of the study, the effects of fundamental dimensionless variables—such as the magnetic parameter (Ha), Riga plate parameter, Prandtl number (Pr), micropolar parameters, and the moving surface parameter—on the velocity, microrotation, temperature, and concentration profiles are analyzed in detail through graphs. Furthermore, the parametric effects on quantities of engineering importance, such as the skin friction coefficient, the couple stress coefficient, the Nusselt number (rate of heat transfer), and the Sherwood number (rate of mass transfer), are presented in tabular form. The findings obtained provide a valuable theoretical basis for optimizing the thermal performance of such complex systems and for the design of industrial processes.
