Examination of awareness levels of instructors working in the Ministry Of National education related to the effects of sports on mentally disabled individuals: Adiyaman/Çelikhan example

Aim: İn this study, examined the awareness levels of teachers for the effects of sports in individuals with intellectual disabilities according to some parameters. Material and Method: 214 teachers with an average age range of 41-50 from Çelikhan district of Adıyaman participated in the study. Information about the teachers age, gender, branch, type of school where he worked, the year of duty, the presence of a mentally disabled person in the family, the status of having worked with a mentally disabled individual in the past and regular sports were recorded. 38 science teachers, 127 social science teachers and 49 special talent teachers participated in the study. Awareness Scale for the Effects of Sports on Mentally Handicapped Individuals was applied to the participants. Results: In the study, no significant difference was found in the awareness levels of teachers according to age, gender, school type and year of duty (p>0.05). However, there was a significant difference in the level of awareness of teachers according to their branches, whether they do regular sports or not, and their work status with individuals with mental disabilities (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of the study, it was determined that the awareness levels of the teachers who were in the special talent group, participated in regular sports activities and worked with individuals with mental disabilities were better than the other groups. In this context, in-service training seminars on "Sports in Mentally Disabled Individuals" can be given to increase the awareness levels of other branch teachers.
