Abstract (EN)
The Nationalist Movement Party took its place in the Turkish political life when the name of the Republican Peasant Nation Party turned into a Nationalist Movement Party at the general congress held in Adana on February 8-9, 1969. MHP is still the longest lasting political party in the Turkish politics only to the CHP. In fact, the Party gets its intellectual resources from the ideas of nationalism that emerged between the imperial intellectuals and the non-imperial Turkish intellectuals who saw the solution in Turkish nationalism in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. With Alparslan Türkeş, MHP has established nationalism as a political program under the name of "Dokuz Işık" (The Nine Light). Within this program, the basic factors that reveal the MHP's approach to the concepts of nation, nationalism and state have been the needs. Therefore, the nationalist movement has been considered as the third choice. In this context, MHP has pioneered an understanding that sees the nation and the state in unity and unites the nation in emotions with a nationalist discourse that attaches importance to the society and also preserves the basic qualities of the state. Nationalism, on the other hand, has found meaning as the name of raising and loving the state and nation on national principles.
