Abstract (EN)
Architecture is an interdisciplinary field of art and science dedicated to creating spatial designs for human life. Architectural education aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and aesthetic sensibilities required for designing spatial environments. The transition from architectural education to practice begins with the acquisition of competencies during the education process, enabling the design and execution of architectural environments. To achieve ideal architectural outcomes, interdisciplinary processes play a critical role in both education and practice. These processes represent a collaborative approach involving interaction, information exchange, and cooperation among various fields of expertise. This thesis aims to identify and investigate the interdisciplinary challenges, knowledge gaps, and experience deficiencies encountered in this transition and to propose recommendations addressing the interdisciplinary needs of the professional transition process. The research employs a literature review and quantitative research methods, particularly the survey method. Through the survey, the study examines the perspectives, opinions, and tendencies of architects registered with the Izmir Chamber of Architects in Turkey regarding the interdisciplinary aspects of their careers. By evaluating the professional transition process in architecture within an interdisciplinary framework, this thesis considers the example of the diverse Izmir Chamber of Architects in Turkey. It compares this process with professional transitions in other countries and disciplines related to architecture, integrating it with the dynamics of architectural education and practice. The study aims to propose strategies that introduce new dimensions to discussions on professional transitions in architecture.
