Abstract (EN)
The Basic Design Education having been implemented since Bauhaus up to the present, differs both within and between the institutions like many applied courses. Yet in every institution, being placed within a critical period like the first year as a transition phase, it builds a significant base manipulating the design language which will be used by the applicant architect lifelong. This thesis, searching for and discussing the interaction between music and architecture in terms of design language, is divided into three main chapters in which various dimensions like `basic design education and music-architecture relations? are supported by `a case study?. In the second chapter, the Basic Design Education presented as a problem field, is discussed toward its conceptual dimensions and aims; and examined by its historical development and sample implementations in Bauhaus through the way it followed in order to attain these aims. Selecting four schools of architecture where the Basic Design Education is implemented in Turkey, the contextual and structural developments of this process are examined and discussed in this chapter as well. In the third chapter, the forms of relations between music and arhitecture in their paralel historical developments are treated in `philosophical, metaphorical, arithmetical, creativity, perceptual and structural? aspects. In this context, considering the product of each discipline is a `composition?, their common design languages, concepts and relations are presented in detail. In the fourth chapter, the reflections of these commonalities on the educational environment are presented and discussed with a case study assessing a sample project in the first year Basic Design Studio. In summary, this thesis comprising a common problem field through relations between music and architecture, is an interdisciplinary, multi-dimensioned study specific to the Architectural Education. Keywords: basic design, design language, composition, multi-disciplinary
