An experimental study on the effects of polyhedrons on three-dimentional shaping in architectural basic education.

Design ability is one of the most basic skills of the architect. Lee Hodgden defines' the design as the basic design that educates all the talents of the artist in this process, designing the form that the creative action performs in the mind and performing it in the paper. Basic design education continues to be applied from Bauhaus to architectural schools with different approaches. Vorkurs, whose basic form knowledge is given at the Bauhaus, covers the first six months and forms the basis of today's basic design education. Along with developing technology and changing student profile, education methods and targets are renewing themselves. It is the main theme of this thesis that architectural schools that support computational design education follow the approach of developing the three-dimensional form knowledge in the basic design, the approach from the Beaux-Art and Bauhaus schools in an integrated way. The main problem is to construct a shaping exercise that covers the entirety of these approaches and to designate an eccentric object. As a result of the research done within the scope of the thesis, an area study which is going to be carried out by using the geometry of smooth polyhedrals, which is thought to give ecvap to the main problems mentioned, has been constructed. At Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Architecture, an alternative method that can be applied to develop three-dimensional shape information in Basic Design education has been tried. The results of the survey study and field work were evaluated. Fieldwork achievements made with polyhedrons have been valued as a method of shaping on the basis of the traditional approach to architectural basic education as a common basis for the computational approach.
