Abstract (EN)

A STUDY OF DES GN PROPERTIES AND VISUAL QUALITIES OF MINIMALISTSPACES WITH THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE ON THETYPOLOGY OF HOUSEFatma NERG ZArchitecture, M.S.ThesisMinimalism has recently had an impact on every field in which design is applied. The conceptof Minimalism is to be perceived, first of all, as a way of life. Minimalist spaces should beevaluated, with the understanding that there is a system of thought beneath the simpleappearance. Homes are not merely shelters in which daily life is carried out, but alsostructures in which the culture and way of life of persons are best reflected. This research isthe result of an attempt to explore the essence of Minimalism as it is reflected on the typologyof homes.Research basically aims to comprehend the essence of Minimalism by bringing up thesystems of thought which creates Minimalism and reflects of minimal way of life to spaces.Thesis is divided into six chapters. In the first chapter the purpose, scope and methodology ofthesis is explained. The second chapter contains the definitions of Minimalism. The thirdchapter is the section in which Minimalism is researched in architecture and design.Minimalism is examined historically and then minimalist building examples are explored.After defining the concept of interior home space, the fourth chapter continues to examineJapanese and Anatolian home spaces, which have managed well with minimalist way of life.The fifth chapter explains the properties of minimalist spaces with the basic elements ofarchitecture. Finally, the results are presented.By examining the properties of minimalist spaces, the conclusion of the research shows howminimalist thought are reflected in concrete form.
