Abstract (EN)
Modern Art, which started to gain importance in the periods after the Industrial Revolution, gained an autonomous character by building its own institutionalism over time. This institutionality and autonomy of Modern Art pushed it to a field outside of life, thus causing it to sever its ties with life. For this reason, after the First World War, the idea of Modern Art began to be questioned and faced attacks from the avant-garde. Although it encounters similar avant-garde objections from time to time, the Modern Art paradigm continued to exist until the 1960s. Minimalism, with a new avant-garde attitude of the 1960s, like many other art movements, develops a new way of art, that is independent of the modernist understanding of that period. Expanding the perspective of minimalism in his own way, Richard Serra tries to overcome it with a new understanding that he brought to the sculpture field. Thus, Serra provides the emergence of a new sculptural language by transforming some concepts of art and using different methods.
