Abstract (EN)
Breast cancer, one of the most common malignancies among women worldwide, is a disease that affects 10-12% of the female population each year and causes more than 500,000 deaths worldwide. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding RNAs about 22 nucleotides long that play important roles in almost all biological pathways. The aim of this study is to determine the expression levels of miR-4715-3p and miR-5000-3p in tumor tissues and surrounding healthy normal tissues of breast cancer patients and to investigate their relationship with breast cancer development. RNA isolation and cDNA synthesis were performed from the tumor and healthy tissue samples of 38 patients with breast cancer. Expression levels of miR-4715-3p and miR-5000-3p in these tissues were determined using RT-qPCR technique. The expression level of miR-4715-3p showed a statistically significant decrease in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues (p<0.001). The expression level of miR-5000-3p was significantly increased in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues (p<0.001). These results suggested that miR-4715-3p might have a tumor suppressor role; while miR-5000-3p might have an oncogenic role. Therefore these miRNAs might be new potential biomarkers in breast cancer.
