Abstract (EN)

This pretest-posttest intervention study (without a control group) was conducted between 20.08.2020 and 30.10.2020 to establish the impact of mobile learning on safe ventrogluteal injection practices of nurses. The study sample consisted of 34 nurses working at adult healthcare departments of Gazi University Health Research and Application Center Gazi Hospital, who agreed to participate in the research. The study data were collected using data collection forms and the Questionnaire for Knowledge on Ventrogluteal Region. Upon submitting their informed consent, the study nurses were asked to fill out the data collection forms. Then, an animation intended for safe ventrogluteal injection practice was sent to the nurses' mobile devices. The nurses had unlimited access to the animation for one week. After one week, the nurses were administered the data collection forms. Prior to the study, a written approval was obtained both from the ethics committee and the study center. The mean pretest score of the nurses on the knowledge concerning the use of ventrogluteal site for intramuscular injection was 12.82 ± 3.80 compared with a mean posttest score of 16.97 ± 2.84. The study established a significant increase in nurses' mean score of knowledge on the ventrogluteal region after education with mobile learning. Therefore, it is recommended that the use of mobile learning is generalized as a supportive teaching method in nursing education.
