Experimental surface applications in clothing design used as an object of art in fashion, art/artist relationship

People have felt the need to cover themselves to protect themselves from environmental conditions throughout their lives. Changing conditions and climates have diversified the clothing. The need to cover has turned into the concept of dressing. Conditions and class statuses have also caused differentiation of clothes. Clothes have turned into a means of expression and identity for people. The clothes designed and appealing to the personality of the individual have been personalized. The rapidly increasing need for ready-made clothing after the industrial revolution allowed designers to cross the road. These demands laid the groundwork for haute couture and wearable art. The designers' influence from schools and trends was reflected in their designs. The meeting of the designers with the artists on common grounds could also be observed from the designed costumes. Within the scope of this researched thesis, we see clothing in various roles in the art movement of almost every period. Sparks from the Dada movement and the conceptual art movement spread to the garment and turned it into a performance artist's costume. This transformation was so strong that the garment sometimes turned into an artist and an artist into a garment. This object (clothing), which used to be a ready-made object, has now become the object of art. The lines, colors and forms of the movements took place in the costumes produced and turned into wearable works of art. In this thesis, works of art that inspire fashion designers and movements, especially cubism, are examined. By examining the art movements that fashion designers are influenced by, it is aimed to determine how these effects are reflected in their designs with the findings. In this context, in the theoretical framework of the thesis, art movements are mentioned and examples from the history of fashion are given. As a result, it is aimed that this thesis study will be added to the literature in terms of the coexistence and relationship of art and fashion and to be a source that will shed light on many researches in the context of this subject.
