Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to examine the modern methods of analysis? availability in teaching poetry and their effects in students? poetry analyzing ability. Besides, it is to determine whether there is a significant difference in students? creative thinking skills, attitude towards poetry, aesthetic sensitivity, critical thinking and problem solving skills before and after the practice processes of the poetry analysis through modern analyzing methods. In this study an experimental design based on pre-text, post-test and a mixed method research have been used. Mixed method research is defined as a research that the researcher combines the quantitive and qualitative research techniques in a single study. Accordingly, the quantitive and qualitative data were collected separately, analyzed and the obtained data brought together ultimately.Research was carried out with Ahi Evran University Department Of Turkish Language 2nd grade students (N=71). The researcher in 12-week period analyzed poetry in experimental group through modern methods of analyzing, whereas in control group, through traditional method. To determine students? skills in analyzing poetry, students? creative thinking skills, attitude towards poetry, aesthetic sensitivity, critical thinking and problem solving, different data collecting instruments were used before and after the implementation process. These instruments are poetry attitude scale, the scale of ability to analyze poetry, aesthetic sensitivity scale, the scale of critical thinking skills, the scale of the creative thinking skills and the scale of problem solving skills. In addition, throughout the process in order to assess the poems, students analyze, a Poetry Rating Scale was used. Semi Structured Interview Forms were used to get views of academic staff who work in universities on the relevant theories and approaches of teaching poetry and poetry. Results reveal that both traditional and modern method of analyzing has a positive effect on students? creative thinking skills, attitude towards poetry, aesthetic sensitivity, critical thinking, problem solving and ability of analyzing poetry. In addition, it is observed that before the practice, students? skills of analyzing were inadequate, but following the practice process the change was in positive direction. In comparing the Experimental and Control groups with regard to skills of poetry analyzing, especially analyzing the latest period poems, a statistically significant difference has been observed in the experimental group. When the views of academic members on teaching poetry and relevant theories and approaches to poetry examined, we observe an agreement that relevant theories and approaches to poetry should be used in teaching poetry process. The use of relevant theories and approaches to poetry in teaching poetry promoted academicians? views which support, those methods maintain special attitudes such as students? joy over poetry, going into the poetry and gaining different perspectives. In addition, the method which will be used should be chosen according to the nature or the period of the text is a must condition especially sought by some academic members.
