Waste as a medium of expression in the field of modern art and post-art

Any object or material that is left over after using a product or is simply no longer needed is used to label as "waste". Waste encounters in all periods of human life has turned into a problem for the world since the industrial revolution and technological developments increase. After the industrial revolution, waste increase has begun to pose a threat to nature. Therefore, the multiplicity and diversity of objects have turned into raw materials for artists. Many movements formed after the period when ready-made objects were used in the field of art. Critical approaches to production and consumption culture, which is one of the main causes of waste, have found a response in the field of art as well as in many areas of social life. This period coincides with the beginning of the 19th century, Modern Art and Post-Art the fields that can be discussed within the framework of the subject. The use of daily objects, starting with materials such as paper, glass, and thread, has created art fields such as collage, assemblage, and photomontage. In this thesis were made references to mass production materials, the use of ready-made objects, the transformation of waste objects into an art tool, and the consumption culture in the periods covering Modern Art and Postmodern Art.Especially after Dada which turned objects into a means of expression use of ready-made objects has become a tool to express ideas more clearly. After the postmodern period, use of waste in a field of art clearly emphasizes environmental problems. This thesis examines waste's transformation into an expression through art, especially in Modern and Postmodern Art which highlights the daily negative effects of waste that results from mass production, industrialization and tecnological developments.
