A comparative analysis of past tense forms in modern Uighur and Turkish

Modern Uighur and Turkish possess some similar forms due to the fact that they both belong to Turkic languages. Meanwhile, they also have some different forms to indicate the past tense. Some of these forms consist of more than one morpheme or suffix to denote aspect or modality. In terms of inferring the TAM system, even a same marker can be able to indicate different functional features in these languages. There are various inflectional markers in modern Uighur to indicate the past tense with different aspectual and modalitical meanings. In some forms of modern Uighur, a suffix has more than one function in the TAM system. This paper provides an analysis of simple TAM markers that we would come across in the past tense forms of modern Uighur and Turkish. Thus, give an account to their usage in two languages. After a comparative analysis, the ultimate purpose of the study is to reveal the functional smilarities and distictions of all the markers which are involved in the past tense forms in mentioned languages. The study consists of five chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter in which includes general informations about the study. In second chapter, we tried to analyze the past tense forms and related suffixes in modern Uighur. Third chapter is for Turkish. The results of second and third chapter are essential for further comparison of these two languages in next chapter (fourth chapter). The chapter five is a final chapter of the study.
