Modernization and suicide Mus example

Suicide events become ordinary news that we hear or witness through various media channels. In the occurrence of these events, many causes can be listed, from spiritual reasons to social factors. Changes in the lives of individuals, especially with modernization, seem to be an important factor in suicidal tendencies. In this context, the aim of the study is to investigate the impact of social norms and lifestyles revealed by modernization on suicides. The study was based on data on total suicide cases in the provincial center and rural areas. As a result of data obtained from the Muş Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Muş Provincial Police Department covering the years 2005-2019, socio-demographic information of both the provincial center and rural areas was extracted and the risk factors of suicides were tried to be determined. In addition, a general comparison of suicidal tendencies was made using the suicide statistics of the Eastern Anatolia region and Turkey-wide covering the same years of the Turkish Statistical Institute. As a result of these studies, it was concluded that modernization causes thawings in the social structure and increases suicidal tendencies. In the comparison of suicide cases in rural areas with the provincial center of Muş, it was determined that socio-economic, socio-cultural and socio-political situations cause different suicidal tendencies.
