Participation of Turkish women in political life in the modernization period

The participation of women in political life is quite low compared to men. Considering the reasons for this, there is the idea that historically women and men have different roles. During the hunter-gatherer period, women remained in their living quarters and took care of the children and the house. However, he struggled to protect his family and living space in the absence of his wife. This situation is also seen in Turkish communities, and it is seen that the concept of power is not attributed to men or women, and both genders are considered equal. In Turkish communities, which have a nomadic lifestyle, women participated in the state administration together with men and took part in important jobs such as embassies. However, in time, the Turks who converted to Islam were influenced by the Arab culture, so women were made more passive in all areas of life. After the republican regime, this situation was tried to be changed, women were given rights and freedoms in all areas of society, but the gender roles on the basis of them prevented women from being represented in the desired way, especially in political life.
