Molla Zahir Tendureki and sufistic elements in his poems

The eastern region, which has an ancient sûfîstic tradition, hosts various sûfîstic understandings for ages. In the 19th century Naqshbandi sect spread out in a large area of the eastern region. In this regard, especially the second half of the 19th century, Seyyid Sıbgatullah Arvâsî and one of his khalif Sheikh Abdurrahman-ı Tağî played big roles. Concordantly in the first quarter of the 20th century the son of Sheikh Abdurrahman-ı Tağî and Sheikh Muhammed Diyâuddîn -a khalif of the Naqshbandi sect- were also important figures. When Sheikh Hazret was the lodge of Norşin, he performed the compatibility of sharia and sect, which are characteristic properties of the Naqshbandi Khalidiyya. Fundamentally the consideration about "esoteric and external sciences complete each other" began with Sheikh Abdurrahman-ı Tağî in the lodge of Norşin and has become evident with Sheikh Fethullah Verkânisî and Sheikh Hazret. In this sense Molla Zahir is one of those people who represents Sheikh Hazret in a thoroughly way. He was known for his deep knowledge in the sciences of shari and lore as well as for his writing ability. The death of his Sheikh Muhammed Diyâuddîn affected him deeply. Because of his affection and devotion for his Sheikh, he wrote 105 poems. His Diwan is literarily in regard to sufistic elements very rich. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part provide information about the life of Tendûrekî, his scientific education, his affiliation to Sufism, his teachers, his sufistic thoughts and works. In the second part the poems of Tendûrekî are examined in terms of content and structure. Additionally elements of Sûfîsm are identified and analyzed.
