Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of the present study was to uncover the effect of the Motivational Interview Method on the quality of life and self-efficacy behaviors of individuals with chronic diseases. The Meta-Analysis Method, which is one of the methods of synthesizing quantitative research results, was used in the study. A total of 23 studies were included regarding the quality of life variable and 21 studies were included for the self-efficacy behaviors variable were included in this meta-analysis by searching the databases of YÖK Thesis Center, PubMed, EBSCOhost, Web of Science, and Google Scholar Google Scholar databases, national and international universities online library of scanned databases on the subject. The sample sizes of the studies included in the study were 8513 individuals according to the quality of life variable, and 3594 with chronic diseases according to the variable of self-efficacy behaviors. The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Ver. 2.2.064 (CMA) program was used in the analyses of the study data. As a result of the analyzes, it was found that there was no publication bias in the individual studies included in the study regarding all study variables. As a result of the analyses that were made according to the Random Effects Model, it was found that the Motivational Interviewing Method had a small (d=0.29) effect on the quality of life of individuals with chronic diseases, and had an insignificant (d=0.14) effect on self-efficacy behaviors. In the meta-analysis regarding the quality of life, the data obtained from 23 studies showed that the overall effect of Motivational Interviewing Method on quality of life (EB=0.296) was significant at 95% Confidence Interval with 22 degrees of freedom between -0.891 and at a lower limit of -0.891 and an upper limit of 4.827. In the meta-analysis regarding the self-efficacy behaviors, the data obtained from 21 studies showed that the overall effect of Motivational Interviewing Method on self-efficacy behaviors (EB=0.141) was insignificant at 20 degrees of freedom and 95% Confidence Interval between a lower limit of -1.18832 and an upper limit of 3.59705. When the effect of the study characteristics on study findings was examined, it was seen in studies dealing with the quality of life variable that the name of the chronic disease, measurement tool used, sampling group, disease group, age range, and whether the person conducting the motivational interview was a nurse had a moderator effect. In the meta-analysis in which the self-efficacy behaviors variable was evaluated, the duration of the motivational interview, the name of the chronic disease, the measurement tool used, the sampling group, the disease group, the age range, and whether the person who conducted the motivational interview was a nurse, country/continent, disease group, type of publication were not found to be important moderators.
